What the 5070 Micro Actually Is
The Dell OptiPlex 5070 Micro is a 9th Gen Intel business desktop built into an ultra-compact chassis — about 1.4 inches tall and roughly the footprint of a paperback book. Dell designed this size on purpose: the 5070 Micro ships with a VESA mounting bracket so it can sit bolted to the back of a monitor, tucked under a desk, or stacked on a shelf, freeing up desk space in offices, reception counters, and point-of-sale setups. It runs on the Intel Q370 chipset, the same business-class platform used across the 9th Gen OptiPlex line, and this unit ships with the built-in WiFi/Bluetooth card fitted (the M.2 slot Dell reserves for it), so you are not stuck plugging in a USB dongle just to get online.
Processor and Everyday Performance
The 5070 Micro was offered with 9th Gen Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors as well as Pentium Gold options, most of them "T-suffix" low-power parts (such as the Core i5-9500T or i7-9700T) because the Micro chassis has to keep heat and fan noise down in a very small volume — Dell trades a bit of clock speed for near-silent operation here, not for raw horsepower. Storage is where the Micro form factor really shows its size constraints: there is no room for a 3.5" hard drive bay at all. Primary storage is always an M.2 SSD (SATA or NVMe) in the board's M.2 Socket 3, and the chassis has exactly one additional 2.5" drive bay that can only be used as secondary storage alongside that M.2 SSD — it cannot be the primary drive. If your workflow needs multiple large HDDs or heavy local storage, this is not the right chassis; the SFF or Tower OptiPlex variants (or a proper server) are the better fit, and we're happy to point you to those instead.
Graphics, Ports, and Mounting
Graphics are handled entirely by the CPU's built-in Intel UHD Graphics 630 — there is no discrete GPU slot in the Micro chassis, full stop. It drives dual displays over DisplayPort and HDMI comfortably for office use, spreadsheets, dashboards, and video calls, but it is not a graphics card and was never meant to be treated like one. On the plus side, the same small footprint that rules out a discrete GPU is what makes the VESA mount genuinely useful: bolt it to the back of a monitor and you get a clean, cable-tidy desk with zero footprint, which is exactly why these units are popular for reception desks, bank branches, and open-plan offices.
