What The DL785 G6 Actually Is
The HP ProLiant DL785 G6 is HP's high-end 8-socket AMD Opteron server — not a standard dual-Intel-Xeon rack server. It's built specifically around AMD's Opteron 8000-series processors (6-core parts at up to 2.8GHz) for large-scale database consolidation and virtualization, a different class of machine from HP's mainstream Intel-based DL380/DL360 line entirely.

Sockets: up to 8x AMD Opteron 8000-series (6-core, 6MB L3 cache each). RAM: up to 512GB. Expansion: 11 PCIe I/O slots (or an optional 7 PCIe + 2 HTx configuration). Management: HP's own iLO controller — this generation predates iDRAC/OpenManage terminology entirely, since those are Dell-specific tools that don't apply to any HP server.
Where This Will Let You Down
This is not an Intel Xeon platform and never was — if your workload or software licensing specifically requires Intel CPUs, this chassis won't fit. It's also an older-generation, large-format 8-socket machine: expect higher power draw and rack footprint than a modern 2-socket server, and no DDR4/NVMe support.
