What The 840 G4 Actually Is
The HP EliteBook 840 G4 is a 2017-era 14-inch business laptop built around Intel's 7th Generation "Kaby Lake" Core i7 (typically the i7-7600U), with a genuine FHD touchscreen option on this specific configuration. It's HP's mainstream enterprise 14" line from that generation — the specs below apply to this generation specifically, not later G5-G11 models with different port/wireless capability.
Real Specifications
Display: 14" — this listing's config is FHD (1920x1080) touchscreen; non-touch HD/FHD/WQHD variants also exist in this generation. Ports: 1x USB-C (USB 3.0 signalling — does not support Thunderbolt 3, a real capability gap vs. later EliteBook generations), 2x USB 3.0 Type-A (one doubles as a charging port), DisplayPort 1.2, docking connector. Wireless: 802.11ac Wi-Fi + Bluetooth 4.2 (predates Wi-Fi 6, which launched in 2019, two years after this laptop).
Where This Will Let You Down
The USB-C port is data/charging only — no Thunderbolt 3 docking or external-GPU support, unlike later EliteBook generations. No Wi-Fi 6. If your workflow specifically needs Thunderbolt peripherals, look at a newer-generation EliteBook or workstation instead.
